FORMAS DE PARTICIPACIÓN
RESIDENCIAS ONLINE
La pandemia provocó un cambio en WALDEN. Desde entonces, las residencias son online. Mantenerlas de esta manera nos ha permitido focalizar toda la energía y recursos en los proyectos, proporcionando un espacio de creación, pensamiento, intercambio y comunidad para los cineastas.
El trabajo online no es algo que nos sea ajeno. Ya hace más de una década que una parte del trabajo de acompañamiento que realizamos (vinculado directamente con WALDEN pero incluso previo o paralelo a las Residencias) es a través de encuentros virtuales con sus autores. Y los resultados siguen siendo reveladores, hermosos y potentes.
FUNCIONAMIENTO DE LAS RESIDENCIAS WALDEN EN SU VERSIÓN ONLINE:
Las Residencias tendrán lugar los días anunciados y contarán con 4 participantes.
Cada día se dedicará el trabajo (3 horas diarias) a uno de los proyectos.
El resto de participantes estarán presentes, no tanto para buscar abrir un debate o forzar una ronda de palabras sino con la certeza de que la escucha genera reconocimiento: el proceso del otro se convierte en un espejo para el propio. Pensar en y a través de las películas de las demás puede a llegar a ser la mejor manera de darse cuenta del propio camino.
Cada sesión tiene como objetivo empujar los proyectos hacia adelante, cuestionar y ahondar en su razón de ser, identificar y profundizar en la relación entre el o la cineasta y su película, dar con sus formas justas. Pero las películas no solamente son el objetivo de nuestro trabajo sino también el punto de partida: a partir de ellas, la idea es seguir pensando sobre el cine, su práctica y su estética, sus promesas, sus resortes, sus límites (si es que los tiene); sobre qué implica hoy hacer películas, qué es lo que está en juego, cual es nuestro compromiso y responsabilidad. Cual nuestra libertad y riesgo.
Después de la primera semana de trabajo en cada proyecto (4 días, un día por proyecto), habrá una semana de pausa en la que los y las participantes tendrán que retrabajar siguiendo ciertas propuestas o directrices ofrecidas en la primera semana. Los y las participantes mandaran sus “tareas”, materiales nuevos o retrabajados. Y volveremos a encontrarnos: 4 días más. Un día por proyecto. La ronda de nuevo.

CONDICIONES
Lxs participantes se comprometen a estar presentes durante todas las sesiones, para Walden es fundamental que todo el proceso de trabajo sea compartido por todxs. De no poder participar de esta forma se pide esperar a una nueva convocatoria cuando sus tiempos se lo permitan.
La lectura de materiales relacionados con cada proyecto y los visionados necesarios de proyectos en fase de montaje o de material de rodaje se realizarán previamente a los encuentros mediante enlaces.
De la misma manera, se habilitará la plataforma para acceder a las películas y lecturas recomendadas, siempre que se disponga de los materiales.
A lo largo de la residencia se establecerá una línea de comunicación directa tanto grupal como personal para atender dudas concretas que los participantes puedan ir teniendo.
PRECIO
El precio de la residencia es 1.200€.
POSTULACIÓN DE PROYECTOS
Las propuestas deben ser enviadas a info@residenciaswalden.org indicando en el asunto el título del
proyecto y el país.
La presentación de los proyectos es libre. Se podrá enviar un dossier, una sinopsis, un texto, notas, apuntes, diarios, así como imágenes, material de investigación o de rodaje, una selección de material sin ordenar o con un cierto orden, pre-montaje o un montaje casi definitivo.
El material deberá estar acompañado de un texto dedicado a la motivación para hacer la película y una breve explicación de qué se quiere trabajar en la residencia.
SELECCIÓN
Los criterios de selección tienen que ver con el compromiso y valor de la mirada, la calidad creativa y la motivación del participante tanto respecto a la película como al encuentro.
Si bien toda película encuentra las maneras de resonar en otra,buscamos, también, que los proyectos seleccionados conformen un grupo donde el diálogo pueda darse de forma especial (un mismo universo fílmico, sensibilidades cercanas o que dialoguen claramente por oposición, preguntas fílmicas comunes,
complementarias o que se implican entre sí; el retrato, la memoria, el paisaje...), proyectos donde, de una manera u otra, aparezcan ecos fértiles.
Intentamos, en la medida de lo posible, reunir proyectos en distintos estados, desde fases tempranas de escritura hasta etapas avanzadas de montaje. Sus formas de producción también podrán ser diversas: películas con el respaldo de una productora o directores trabajando sus propuestas de forma independiente. Como entendemos el documental como un gesto creativo, como una forma de acercarnos y entender el cine, no como un género cinematográfico, recibimos proyectos de distintos géneros y disciplinas. Así, las ficciones son muy bienvenidas.
CRÉDITOS
Los proyectos que participen en Walden se comprometen a añadir el crédito de Acompañamiento creativo y el logo que será enviado una vez se termine la película.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE
ONLINE RESIDENCIES
The pandemic brought about a change at WALDEN. Since then, our residencies have been held online. Continuing with this format has allowed us to focus all our energy and resources on the projects, while continuing providing a space for creation, reflection, exchange and community for filmmakers.
Working online is nothing new to us. For over a decade now, part of our creative involvement (directly linked to WALDEN but also including work prior to or alongside the Residencies) has developed through virtual meetings with the filmmakers.
And the results continue to be revealing, beautiful and powerful.
HOW THE WALDEN RESIDENCIES WORK
The Residencies will take place on the announced dates and will have 4 participants.
Each day, the work (3 hours a day) will be dedicated to one of the projects. 4 days, one day per project.
The other participants will be present, not aiming to initiate a debate or force a round of discussion, but with the certainty that listening fosters recognition: the other’s process becomes a mirror for one’s own. Reflecting on and through the films of others can become the best way to realize one’s own path.
Each session seeks to move the projects forward, to question and explore their raison d’être, to identify and delve into the relationship between the filmmaker and their film, and to find filmic true forms, the ones that belong to each filmic experience.
But films are not only the objective of our work, they are also the starting point: building on them, the idea is to continue thinking about cinema, its practice and aesthetics, its promises, its driving forces, its limits (if it has any); about what it means to make films today, what is at stake, what our commitment and responsibility are. What our freedom and risk...
After the first week of work on each project (4 days, one day per project), there will be a week’s break during which participants will have to rework their projects following certain proposals or guidelines offered in the first week. Participants will send in their ‘assignments’, new or reworked materials. And we will meet again: 4 more days. One day per project. The cycle, all over again.

CONDITIONS
Participants commit to attending all sessions; for WALDEN, it is essential that everyone takes part in the entire working process. If you are unable to participate in this way, we ask that you wait for the next call for participants when your schedule allows.
Reading materials related to each project and the necessary viewings of projects in the editing phase or of footage will be carried out prior to the sessions via links.
Similarly, the platform will be made available for accessing the recommended films and reading materials, whenever possible.
Throughout the residency, a direct line of communication will be established, both for the group and on an individual basis, to address any specific queries participants may have.
PRICE
The price of the residency is €1,500.
PROJECT APPLICATIONS
Proposals must be sent to info@residenciaswalden.org, stating the project title and country in the subject line.
There are no restrictions on how projects are presented. You may submit a dossier, a synopsis, a text, notes, journal fragments, as well as images, research or filmed material, a selection of documents or footage in no particular order or in a specific order, a rough cut or a near-final edit.
The material must be accompanied by a text explaining the motivation behind the film and a brief description of what you wish to work on during the residency.
SELECTION
The selection criteria focus on the commitment and vision of the filmmaker, the creative quality of the work, and the participant’s motivation in relation to both the film and the event.
Whilst every film finds ways to resonate with another, we also seek to ensure that the selected projects form a group where dialogue can take place in a special way (a shared cinematic universe, similar sensibilities or also those that clearly engage in dialogue through contrast, common, complementary or interrelated cinematic questions; portraiture, memory, landscape...), projects where, in one way or another, fruitful
echoes emerge.
We aim, as far as possible, to bring together projects at different stages, from early stages of writing to advanced stages of editing. Their production methods may also vary: films backed by a production company or directors working on their projects independently. As we understand the documentary as a creative act, as a way to approach and understand cinema not as a film genre, we receive projects from different genres and disciplines.
Fiction films are therefore very welcome.
CREDITS
Projects participating in WALDEN undertake to include the ‘Creative Consultancy’ credit and the logo, which will be sent once the film is completed.
